Buffalo residents rescue birds stuck in ice after historic winter storm

After spending 56 hours without power, a Buffalo couple ventured outside and found many birds stuck in a thick layer of ice encasing the waterfront of LaSalle Park. Buffalo residents helped free 16 birds stuck in ice along the waterfront of LaSalle Park after a deadly blizzard swept through the region over the weekend. Seamus Gallivan and Alex McArthur said the rescue mission was borne out of wanting to help somehow, while the city remained paralyzed by the historic winter storm. The couple says they spent 56 hours without power as a record 51 inches of snow fell. Passengers stuck on Amtrak Auto Train after freight derailment causes 'significant delays'

An Amtrak Auto Train detoured off its normal route due to the derailment of a CSX freight Monday night has been stuck while waiting for a new crew to arrive. Passengers traveling on an Amtrak Auto Train from a Washington, D.C., suburb Monday evening expected to arrive in the Orlando area by Tuesday morning. But their planned 17-hour journey currently has no end in sight after a freight derailment caused significant delays to the Amtrak trip. The train was detoured off its normal route due to the derailment of a CSX freight Monday night and has been stopped in Denmark, South Carolina, while waiting for a new crew to arrive, Amtrak said. "Tuesday's southbound Amtrak Auto Train has been impacted by significant delays due to a CSX freight derailment in South Carolina," Amtrak said in a statement.
